Easter 2014: Butcher Invents The Scotch Creme Egg. Yes, Really.

Merseyside butcher Graham Eyes wanted to treat his customers to something a bit different this Easter

Easter might be like Christmas’ boring cousin but a butcher in Merseyside has started a fun tradition that has his customers looking forward to Spring every year.

Graham Eyes has invented the Scotch Creme Egg and yep, it’s exactly what it sounds like.

For every one of us out there who has even eaten a Cadbury Creme Egg and thought if only there were more pork in this, you’re in luck.

Graham has taken his classic Scotch Eggs and stuck a whole Creme Egg in the middle thus creating a whole new way for British food to terrify us.

The 53-year-old butcher has been in the business for over 30 years but last year decided that lamb wasn’t enough of an Easter treat.

He created the oft maligned, never replicated Mini Egg Sausage and a tradition was born.

"So far I have had mixed reactions from people about the Scotch Creme Eggs."

"Some of my customers can't wait to try them but other people think they just sound disgusting."

For those naysayers who like their Creme and Scotch Eggs separate and believe never the twain shall meet why not try broadening your horizons?

"Personally I think they are really tasty, I really like them," says Graham. "They've got a really interesting taste.”

"You've got the sweetness from the chocolate, contrasting with the chilli and lime that we use in the coating - but the flavours go really well together."

Slimmers out there are in luck as Graham makes a breadcrumb-free option; because of course it’s the bread we’re worried about when thinking about this hybrid concoction.
