Duchess Of Cambridge Considering Using Maternity Nurse With Second Baby
There’s a job opening in the royal family’s staff. Despite not hiring a maternity nurse when Prince George was born, Kate Middleton and Prince William are reportedly considering using one with their second baby
Preparing for the arrival of a newborn baby, when you've already got a toddler at home, can be pretty daunting. So we can understand why the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may be tempted to hire a maternity nurse to help out.
The royal parenting duo is reportedly making enquiries into the matter and their aides are thought to have been in touch with Norland Agency and Royal Nannies about securing a maternity nurse for their new baby’s first three months.
It’s tradition for royal family members to employ a maternity nurse and Kate and Wills went against this tradition when they refused to do so when George was born.
Instead, Kate stayed with her parents after his birth and the Middleton clan helped out in those first few months.
But it’s though that the Duchess’ growing workload has pushed her to consider getting some professional help following her second birth in April.
While George, now 18 months, has his own nanny, a maternity nurse would no doubt be a great help for Kate and allow her to get back to her royal appearances and charity work much faster.
“Kate and William loved the early weeks with Prince George but it was hard work and the sleepless nights took their toll,” a source told Mail Online. “Kate especially was exhausted.”
Another source said that there is definitely room for the Duke and Duchess to house a nanny (well, they do own an apartment in Kensington Palace that’s larger than most people’s houses and a huge country estate).
“There is a nanny annex and a guest suit with plenty of space for Kate’s family… Kate and William plan to go to their own family home after the birth.”
Celebrities Who’ve Hired Maternity Nurses
If Kate and William do hire a maternity nurse, they definitely won’t be the first high-profile couple to call in post-birth professional help.
Actress Megan Fox admitted to hiring a night nurse for their son so she and her husband, fellow actor Brian Austin Green, could catch up on their sleep.
And Gwyneth Paltrow hired sleep nanny Rachel Waddilove to stay with her following the birth of each of her children so she could get some kip.
Maternity nurses don’t come cheap – you can expect to shell out around £100-£200 a day for their services – so without an A-list budget you may find it’s simply not an option for you. But the positive side of hiring a nurse is they will take on the majority of the baby duties – leaving you to rest up.
Does getting a better amount of sleep make you a calmer and more patient parent by day? Potentially.
But critics would argue that hiring a baby nurse of sorts strips away the natural bonding between a mother and her child – and is it natural to let someone else take responsibility for your baby’s needs?
We’ll let the Duchess make up her own mind.
