Devon Beach Makes It Into Europe's Top Five: But Is It Our Best?

We might all be tempted to rush of to one of Europe's beautiful beaches but forget Ibiza, Greece or the South of France, one of Europe's top beaches is right on our doorstep, in Devon

It's a stunning stretch of coastline but unless you're a surfer or a Devonian you might never have heard of it. And now Woolacombe, on the north Devon coast has been voted number four in a list of the best beaches in Europe.

Taking on stiff competition from  Spain, France, Greece and Cyprus - all perhaps slightly better known for their white sands than our own glittering isle - Woolacombe wasn't the only UK beach to make the top 10, as voted for by Trip Advisor users. Weymouth beach in Dorset came in at number eight too. Go Britain!

5. Iztuzu Beach, Dalyan, Turkey
6. Fig Tree Bay, Protaras, Cyprus
7. Cala Rossa, Favignana, Italy

But what about the UK? It's not just Devon and Dorset that lucked out with great beaches - most counties that sit on the coastline would boast about their assets. So we had a look through Flickr for pictures of the top 10 British beaches according to the same user base:

And we have to admit, this year a staycation might be the best holiday choice. Which is your favourite UK beach?
