Daily Mail Downing Street Catwalk Is A GOOD Thing, Says Michelle Mone OBE

Reactions to the Daily Mail's cabinet reshuffle article have been varied and furious, but Michelle Mone OBE turns a negative into a positive.

Michelle Mone OBE thinks if you're too distracted by a woman's outfit, to notice her taking over the world, then you deserve exactly what's coming to you.

The Daily Mail's reporting of the cabinet reshuffle yesterday was unapologetically sexist.

In an article entitled 'Esther, The Queen Of The Downing Street Catwalk', the tabloid wasted much of its precious column inches evaluating female MPs involved in the reshuffle - including Liz Truss, Penny Mordaunt and Priti Patel - for their choice of handbag and shoes, rather than their politics.

The article prompted an outpouring of anguish, from the general public, from other journalists, but also from key figures in the public eye and from the MPs themselves.

Some more furious responses included that of Jenny Willot, a government whip, who labelled the Mail's article "completely outrageous."

Interestingly, even a current Daily Mail correspondent, Beck Barrow, who is soon to leave the tabloid for pastures greener, slammed the coverage, tweeting:

Some favoured a more humorous response, with Liberal Democrats leader Nick Clegg posting an #OOTD (Outfit Of The Day) picture of himself in a blue suit - intending to highlight the disparity in the Mail's treatment of the men and the women of the cabinet.

There are some, though, who are choosing to seek the positives in this display of sexist news coverage.

Yesterday, we spoke to top female entrepreneur and founder of the extremely successful Ultimo brand, Michelle Mone OBE, who asserted that women should try to use this kind of attention to their advantage.

Taking a unique standpoint, Michelle said that in some ways "It's good that women are splashed across the pages [of The Daily Mail], because it just shows that powerful women are walking into 10 Downing Street."

"If it was me walking into Downing Street [yesterday], I’d have had a short dress on, my killer heels on, my blow dry, my sunglasses on and my lipstick and gone, 'Right, Let’s Do it,'" she continued.

Speaking further of the tendency to judge women on superficial grounds, rather than on their business acumen, Michelle said: "I use my femininity to its best. I could chew most of the guys up in the [board] room and spit them out and they wouldn't even know it."

And in a final killer blow to the men too busy judging appearances rather than intelligence, Michelle asserted that it was their own fault if they let their business smarts slip while they were "too busy checking out how good my bra is!"

Many have ridiculed The Daily Mail's rather primitive reporting of the cabinet reshuffle - well played Nick Clegg - but of all the responses, Michelle Mone's is by far the most triumphant, in our opinion.

You go girl!

What do you reckon? Is there a way to take this sort of media sexism and use it to our advantages?
