Dad Throws Playboy-Themed Party For His Teenage Daughter. Gets Arrested

A Lawyer in California's attempted to prove he's the world's coolest dad by throwing a ridiculously inappropriate party for his daughter's 18th birthday

Every dad wants to prove he's the coolest to his little girl, but no matter how down the kids you might be, throwing your 18-year-old daughter a Playboy themed birthday party is not cool.

As a lawyer in California found out when he was arrested for the huge bash he threw for his daughter Olivia. Her 'Liv's Playboy Mansion'- themed party was broken up by police after neighbours called to complain.

Cool Dad Jeff Lake, who as a lawyer specialises in marijuana cases, agreed to host his daughter's birthday party despite the overtly sexual nature of the theme, and around 150-200 teens descended on the family home.

Liv's mum Jackie is a former Poway High School PTA president so they're both responsible sorts, though we're not sure if she was home during the event.

San Diego sheriffs turned up at the party to find a hoard of teenagers, many dressed in an array of bustiers, bunny ears, and lingerie. They reported finding two intoxicated teenage boys unconcious and evidence of underage teens drinking alcohol in the house. The legal drinking age in California is 21.

Jeff has been charged with violating Poway's 'social host ordinance', by hosting a party where underage individuals consume alcohol. He could be jailed for up to six months if found guilty.

But Jeff is a lawyer after all and he's released a statement explaining things from the family's point of view.

It goes into detail about the night, concluding: "Despite my family’s intentions to provide my daughter a fun and safe 18th birthday party in the privacy of our own home, and in defiance of my efforts to provide a drug and alcohol free environment for my daughter and her friends to celebrate what should have been the beginning of a wonderful 18th year, it appears that uninvited troublemakers on a public street created a scenario which has resulted in exactly the opposite; leaving my family to deal with the consequences of their actions."

You can really feel for him here - he just wanted to let his daughter throw a rad party and maybe even naively assumed the teenagers would obey the rules and steer clear of the booze.

But the statement does admit freely that on the invite the dress code was fully Playboy-tastic:

“For apparel feel free to interpret the theme how you’d like but if you need some ideas, guys - robes, Chip n’ dales dancers, Hugh Heffer [sic] styled clothing, whatever you’re comfortable with. And ladies - playboy bunny costumes, bunny tails and cars, tutu’s leotards, anything that’s in your comfort zone.”

Which ain't so cool, really, for a parentally-organised bash.

Poway Mayor Steve Vaus, who lives locally, wasn't impressed. He commented: "You have a party like this and it's as though you're handing out hand grenades as party favors.

"It's a disaster waiting to happen."

He added: "I'd like to put a scarlet letter in front of the homes of people that do this, to say you can't trust these folks, they make bad decisions related to kids' safety," he said.

But actually it might all have worked after all, as a very happy Liv Lake Tweeted after the party: "Huge thanks to everyone who was able to be a part of last night! I hope you all had a damn good time and that you're all okay and safe."

What do you reckon? Misunderstood dad trying to make his daughter happy or irresponsible parenting?
