Curvy Women More Likely To Have Intelligent Children

Cancel that bums, tums and thighs class – apparently all you need to give birth to a clever child are big thighs and a large bum to match

If new research is right, Kim Kardashian and Beyonce may well be mothers to two of the most intelligent little girls in the world.

Sounds doubtful, but scientists have discovered that women with larger behinds and thighs, are more likely to give birth to clever children.

According to scientists, the fat found in women’s bums and thighs helps to boost a baby’s development. Goodness from the fat is passed on to the baby via breastfeeding. So, the more fat, the brighter the child.

“The fat in these areas is a depot for building a baby’s brain,” says professor Will Lassek, a public health epidemiologist at Pittsburgh University, Pennsylvania.

“You need lots of fat to make a nervous system, and the fats in these areas are also enriched in DHA (dicisagexeaenoic acid), which is a particularly important component in the human brain.

“It looks as if women have evolved to accumulate these fats and hold on to them – until a baby arrives.”

Whereas men’s bodies are typically made up of just five to 10 per cent body fat, women tend to have around 30 per cent of their weight made up from body fat.

But a lot of this fat tends to be lost post-birth, when breastfeeding, when it’s required for the baby’s brain, says professor Lassek.

Which would explain why a lot of new mums claim breastfeeding was what helped them lose their baby weight. According to Lassek, breastfeeding mums lose around one pound of fat each month.

Another scientist, David Bainbridge, says that these findings could explain why men find curvy women so attractive.

“The brain-building, breast milk lipids (fats) are largely derived from the fat stored in a mother’s thighs and buttocks,” says Bainbridge, who’s a reproductive biologist at Cambridge University.

“Women with larger thighs have higher levels of these lipids. There is even evidence that they and their children are more intelligent as a result.”
