Now whoever says fashion girls don’t enjoy a bit of classic literature obviously hasn’t logged on to Net-A-Porter recently. Right now you’ll see that the majority of Olympia Le-Tan’s embroidered book-cover bags are all but sold out. See? We do like to get our noses stuck in a good book… all the time! The popularity of French designer Le-Tan’s minaudieres – like Harper Lee’s ‘To Kill A Mocking Bird’ or Vladomir Nabokov’s ‘Lolita’ – may not come as a surprise, because if you’ve been eagle-eyed enough to have spotted her library of literary creations on a high brow book club of celebrity fans - Natalie Portman, Chloe Sevigny, Clemence Poesy and Michelle Williams (who has two!) - then it’s easy to see why they are so coveted. We’ve been watching her steady rise since debuting in 2009, but last night’s annual Chanel Tribeca Film Festival dinner – where every A-list girl could surely have chosen a lovely little Chanel number for the occasion – saw TWO Olympia book-ettes hit the red carpet at the same time and some major ‘It’ status was cemented.
Last night Jessica Hart accessorised her jealous-inducing tangerine bandage dress with Charlotte Olympia heels and a handbag copy of Ex-Wife by Ursula Parrott – a novel clutch that she was spotted proudly toting in October last year. Whilst fashion designer and model Annabelle Dexter Jones swotted up with a version of ‘Letters To A Young Poet’ by Rainer Maria Rilk. It’s her second Olympia clutch, too! Obviously, once you pop, you can't stop. And in a season that’s heavily influenced by surrealism (remember the Prada and Schiaparelli exhibition?) and the fash pack’s continued adoration for the most bonkers of accessories indicates that this could be only Chapter One in the Le-Tan tale. Watch this space!
