Channing Tatum’s Take On Parenthood: ‘Dads Are Just Assistants’

On the big screen, Channing Tatum may run the show but at home it’s his wife that’s the impressive one, so he says.

The 'Jupiter Ascending' star opened up about his “superwoman” wife to the Mirror, joking that when it comes to his dad duties, all he does is act as his wife’s assistant.

“The only thing that guys can really do in the beginning is just be assistants, like, ‘Diaper? Give it to me – got it’,” the 34-year-old actor says. “And it’s like doing a tyre change during a NASCAR race. You do it, then you just hand her back [laughs].

“For the first year, that’s pretty much all guys are – they are just assistants.”

That’s one way of looking at a dad’s role, Channing. But the star admits that now his daughter, Everly, is nearing the age of two, parenting is “starting to get fun.”

“Everly’s starting to say ‘Dada’ and really recognise me. She’s also starting to walk and everything, so it’s getting really cool,” says Channing.

The actor is equally as gushing about his wife as he is his daughter – so if you’re a fan of his, then prepare to swoon.

“She had the baby while we were on Jupiter Ascending and I don’t ever recommend doing four movies and trying to have a kid,” says Channing. “It was not such a good idea. But my wife is a superwoman. I don’t know how she did it. She went to work six weeks after she had the baby.”

By all appearances, and despite saying he’s a mere assistant when it comes to parenting responsibilities, Channing is the epitome of a hands-on dad.

The Hollywood hunk is frequently spotted out and about with Everly and looks besotted with the two ladies in his life. Awww.
