Celebrity Baby Names Go Disney: Rachel Bilson Joins The Trend With Briar Rose

The biggest trend we've seen in celebrity baby names lately has got to be Disney.

Famous parents are falling over themselves to find a fitting name from the movie franchise to bestow on their children, with Rachel Bilson and husband Hayden Christensen the latest to hit on the perfect Disney-approved moniker.

The pair have gone for Briar Rose - which is lovely. It comes from the original tale of the Brothers Grimm and means a single rose in the thorns. (So we wouldn't recommend she shorten it to Briar.)

Briar Rose is also the undercover name the Princess Aurora uses in Sleeping Beauty, and the princess hasn't only inspired Bilson and Christensen.

Holly Madison also used part of her name for her daughter in 2013, Rainbow Aurora Rotella. She and husband Pasquale Rotella married in Disneyland shorly after Rainbow Aurora was born.

But perhaps the most notable Disney name of the year is Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes' little girl, who they named Esmeralda, perhaps inspired by the character in The Hunchback of Notre Dame?

And we all know the story that Simon Cowell's son Eric was named after Simon's dad... or was it actually Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid?

(Does he perhaps rather fancy himself as something as a Prince Eric?!)

And Holly Willoughby's daughter is named Belle - probably from the beautiful Belle in Beauty And The Beast, right?

We predict the trend continuing in a big way into 2015. Will we see a new crop of Rapunzels Flynns, Meridas and Ariels? Here's hoping!

More Bizarre Baby Names?

For children of celebrities, you'd think the media attention, high expectations and ready money would make their experience of life different enough.

But it seems famous parents think their little treasures should be made even more unique, christening them with bizarre baby names from the whimsical to the downright ridiculous. Here are some of our faves.

Let's take Demi Moore and Bruce Willis' daughters to begin with. We've got

Rumour, Scout LaRue and Tallulah Belle Willis.

Then Nicolas Cage named his son after superman - Kal-El (not Superman, that would be a step too far) - the big man's original name from the planet Krypton. His other son is called Weston, which sounds pretty normal in comparison.

Nicole Richie is another lover of the strange baby name. Her children with Joel Madden are called Harlow and Sparrow. Sparrow is a little boy. And the reasoning?

Madden explained: "My worry raising a son in Hollywood is, what will he have to struggle for? I wanted to give him a name that he’s going to have to stand up for. I love it, I think it’s a beautiful name.”

Poor lad.

Moving on, we've got Gwen Stefani's three boys with Gavin Rossdale, called: Kingston Rossdale, Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale and Apollo Bowie Flynn Rossdale.

They may be an odd trio, but we don't think they're the weirdest.

Julia Roberts has a child called Phinnaeus, Lil Kim's daughter is called Royal Reign - which could be interesting when she hits her teens - and there's the obvious pair Apple and Moses, named by now consciously-uncoupled Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin.

And of course we've got Blue Ivy, Beyonce and Jay-Z's daughter, and North West (Nori), the poorly-named daughter of Kim Kardahsian and Kanye West. When she joked about called her child 'Easton' before she was born, we thought it was just that - a joke. But the direction-based name theme stuck.

Sylvester Stallone's Sage Moonblood could be the most odd of the lot. But then we do have Moon Unit, Dweezil and Diva Muffin Zapper (Frank Zapper's three) to remember.

And Matthew McConaughey went religious for his daughter Vida with wife Camila Alves, explaining: "Vida is Portuguese for 'life' and that's what God gave us this morning.”

The Aussies also got in on the act. Elle Macpherson named her son Aurelius Cy, while Nicole Kidman went for Sunday Rose (which does sound like Sunday Roast, doesn't it?).

We've got to throw in the Jolie-Pitts at this point, with Shiloh Nouvel, Maddox, Pax, Zahara and Knox - though his twin Vivienne seems to have escaped more easily, having been named after Angie's mother.

On this side of the pond, Jamie Oliver and wife Jools went for floral names for their little girls, Petal Blossom Rainbow Oliver, Poppy Honey Rosie Oliver and Daisy Boo Pamela Oliver. But their little brother probably got the short end of the stick, lumbered with the name Buddy Bear Maurice Oliver. But maybe if your dad's famous you don't get bullied?

Geri Halliwell chose Bluebell Madonna for her daughter, despite Bluebell generally being used to name cows, and of course the original bonkers baby-namers were Bob Geldof and Paula Yates, who gave their children a series of unique names, Fifi Trixibell, Peaches, Pixie and (with Michael Hutchence) Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily.

Rocker Sting opted for Fuchsia. As in the colour.

And let's not forget the Beckhams with Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz for the boys and their little girl Harper Seven.

Other footballers who've gone 'unusual' include Rooney, whose sons are called Kai and Klay, and Frank Lampard, who went for Luna Coco.

Girls Aloud's Nadine Coyle’s baby girl is called Anaíya, which might be of Hebrew or West Indian origin, the baby name websites don't seem to agree.

Honestly, guys, what's wrong with James or Katie?
