Celeb Chefs Take A Back Seat As Affordable Restaurants Top The Charts

Heston, Gordon and co slip down the list as UK diners vote more everyday eateries their favourites

The British public have voted with their online restaurant reviews for the best eaterie in the land.

And celeb chefs have been knocked out the park, with only Heston Blumenthal's Dinner making it into the top 10.

The winner of the lot is Dishoom - an Bombay-themed restaurant in Covent Garden famed for its delicious breakfasts and modern Indian dishes.

The results come from 'Urban City Guide' Yelp, which has totted up the results from reviews and ratings on its site to come up with the nation's favourites.

Dishoom founders Shamil and Kavi Thakrar said: 'We couldn't be more delighted to hear this news.

"We feel privileged just to be able to serve the guests who come through our doors for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and perhaps share a little bit of our love for Bombay food and culture with them.

"We're truly blown away that so many people have chosen to share their opinions of us online to help us reach the top spot."

They knocked last year's winner Regency Cafe down to second place, followed by Dinner By Heston Blumenthall, which came in third.

Following them, affordable pizzaria Homeslice Pizza was voted fourth. Other budget options in the top 50  included Honest Burgers, Monmouth Cofe, Burger and Lobster, Franco Manca and Timberyard.

And the vast majority of resaurants in the top 100 were from London, with Edinburgh and Glasgow making a small dent in the capital's numbers.

And celebrity chefs only continued making their way into to list at number 12, with Gordon Ramsay's eponymous restaurant.

But it seems that burger restaurants remain king of the foodie scene, with two branches of  Honest Burger, Patty and Bun, Burger and Lobster and Burger Meats Bun all making waves.
