The Carrie Diaries Stylist Eric Daman On AnnaSophia Robb's Eighties Wardrobe

You may have noticed how pleased we are to have Carrie Bradshaw back in our lives courtesy of 'The Carrie Diaries'. Okay, so she's in the shape of AnnaSophia Robb rather than our beloved Sarah Jessica Parker, but we're pleased nonetheless. To add to our excitement, we've already seen Carrie Circa 1985 trussed up in a sparkling silver prom dress as well as hot pink jeans, all topped off with that curly blonde bouffant. Okay, we admit to not being overly convinced by the less-than-Eighties-tastic outfits thus far — we want neon lyrca, lace gloves and leg warmers, dammit — but all is not lost. Why? Because Eric Daman is the man behind the costumes.

For the uninitiated, Mr Daman is the styling genius behind all those gorgeous 'Gossip Girl' outfits and he's even appeared on an episode of 'The City' alongside Whitney Port and Olivia Palermo. Ooh. But did you know that between 2000 and 2001, Eric worked on the set of the original 'Sex and the City' series? Yup, for nine episodes, he assisted the costume designers and the wonderful Patricia Field, giving him an invaluable insight into La Bradshaw's eclectic wardrobe. So, you see, it's a match made in fashion TV heaven.

The Carrie Diaries Stylist Eric Daman On AnnaSophia Robb's Eighties Wardrobe

There's one item of Little Carrie's wardrobe that caught our eye last week: the paint-splattered black satchel that bears her name. Is this the new Carrie necklace, we couldn't help but wonder? But no, Eric has revealed that a version of the necklace features in the prequel and in fact, the series uncovers where that iconic nameplate came from. 'We are doing a little ‘C’ necklace,' Eric tells Fashionista. 'It’s by Alex Woo.' How cute!

'The show takes place in the Eighties, so Stephanie Savage [the show’s creator] and I decided to create a sense of aspirational authenticity,' Eric says of AnnaSophia's wardrobe, 'because the Eighties were really decadent and as for as clothing goes, you want to make it very modern—we wanted to inject freshness.'

As for AnnaSophia herself, Eric says she 'is a delight, she’s a free spirit, a quirky little girl. She has a very big Manolo to fill!' We couldn't have put it better ourselves.
