Butt Selfie Removed From Instagram For Being Fat?

Big butts are usually welcome on social media, from Kim K's belfies to Jen Selter's entire career based on snaps of her behind, but if it's not perfectly peachy, watch out

In what may be the latest instance of fat-shaming, it seems Instagram is a little confused about its mature content policy, allowing certain types of underwear shot to be posted, while others, usually bigger sized versions, are removed.

Meghan Tonjes posted a picture of her bum (in underwear) as part of her drive to promote positive body image whatever your size, using the hashtag #bootyrevolution.

But despite others forging entire careers by posting pictures of their booty on social media, Tonje's was removed under Instagram's 'mature content' rules.

But while Kim Kardashian's barely covered-up butt is part of the Instagram furniture, and James Franco is uploading a semi-nude image every five minutes (and self-editing by removing them himself), we're wondering why Instagram has taken such a stand against Tonjes's be-knickered backside.

And so is she.

Though Instagram restored the image after investigation, you don't see Jen Selter's belfies being shut down when she posts them. Is that because her cheeks are perfectly peachy examples of how a butt 'should' look like, in this time of control underwear and airbrushing?

Though is it just us or is Tonjes' bum not even that big?

She's an outspoken advocate of celebrating a variety of body shapes and has a channel on YouTube she uses to address this among other things.

In a video addressing the issue, Tonjes explains:

“I want you to think of how many big girls you see wearing bathing suits, lingerie, shorts, dresses, tight- fitting clothing, who aren’t openly mocked …

"And now you have the answer as to why a lot of who look like me — and by a lot, I mean not very many — post pictures of themselves showing their thighs or their stomach or parts that other women and other people show proudly and are never questioned on because that’s what we’re used to seeing and we’re comfortable with that.”

The news comes not long after Rob Kardashian reportedly snubbed sister Kim's wedding because of his insecurities over his weight (and his sister's unsympathetic attitude towards it).

We obviously shouldn't encourage people to be unhealthy, but part of Tonjes' attitude is that she's openly documented her weight loss journey. She says that she's 'still fat' but she 'likes her butt' and has as much right as Kim Kardashian or Jen Selter to post non-pornographic images of it.

Speaking to BuzzFeed she said: “I don’t put up photos for people who hate fat people.

“I do it for people who want to see someone who looks like them. I do it for the high school girl who hates the way she looks so she can be confident.

"It’s a little ripple effect and that can be a huge thing in someone’s life. It’s part of our healing. I’m not talking to people who hate fat people, I’m talking to their daughters who have been told they’re not good enough until they’re thin.”
