Britain Has Crowdsourced The Perfect Cake Recipe, And It Is Glorious

Forget solving the world's bigger issues for a minute, because Britain has asked its population to create the ULTIMATE sweet treat.

So, when we first heard that the "perfect" cake recipe had been crowdsourced from a consumer group of 2,000 people, we assumed that droves of people would have been fighting it out to settle on the exact formula for a tasty Victoria's Sponge.

For example, the precise number of grams of butter necessary for moistness and, to the decimal point, how much sugar is required to make it sweet, but not sickly.

We were wrong though.

It turns out the British public is far more schizophrenic in their cake tastes than we'd imagined.

The experiment, carried out by Aldi, revealed that the Nation simply can't settle on one type of cake at all and that the PERFECT dessert must comprise of no less than FIVE different types of baked goodness.

Astonishingly, people's hankerings for a good Victoria's Sponge was not nearly as strong as we'd have predicted, as it came fifth on the list, favoured by a meagre 24 per cent of people.

The most popular cake was in fact the chocolate sponge, demanded by 36 per cent of those questioned.

The other cakes that make up the perfect Easter treat are cheesecake (33 per cent), fruit cake (30 per cent) and carrot cake (29 per cent).

What is more, it turns out that during Easter time, mini eggs are the main decoration requirement.

No less than 352 chocolate mini eggs were used to cover the outside of the mega-cake, on top of the butter-cream icing.

So, 39 different ingredients and 31 hours later - the perfect cake has been created by the Aldi Specialbuys kitchen range and lovingly prepared by Miranda Gore Browne, of Great British Bake-Off series one fame.
