How To Get the Bright Summer Nails Beauty Trend – SS12

At Jason Wu’s spring summer 2012 New York show, statement nails in glossy red were teamed with coordinating bold matte lips. Contrasting with barely there foundation and groomed brows, the look was definitely focused on lips and nails.

If you’re keen to dip your toes in the colour pool, but would rather just experiment with one key feature, go for nails. Easy to coordinate with multiple looks and lasting for a few days, bold bright nails are one of the season’s hottest accessories.

A go-to colour and an eternal classic, Essie’s Fifth Avenue shade is the perfect combination of red and orange. Slightly less statement than pillar-box red shades, it’s easy to wear and will suit all skin tones and shades.

Having just launched a high street collection to add on to the brand’s already existing salon range, the new range comes complete with wider brushes which makes painting your talons in bright shades easier and speedier.

If you make a mistake when painting your nails with a bright colour, Mavala’s Correcteur pen whips off stray nail polish in an instant.

Shaped like a contoured felt tip pen, the replaceable tips connect with an internal vial of nail varnish remover giving you complete control and helping to achieve that professional salon manicure finish.

In varying candy tones, the nail artists at DSquared2 had fun playing with spring brights and hot summer shades.

With perfectly manicured hands and cuticles, natural nails were treated to a lick of fuchsia pink to contrast with the show’s eclectic global traveller aesthetic.

If you’re looking to trial the colour blocking trend, nails are a quirky way to up the fashion ante and create a bold look.

Affordable and long lasting, Avon’s Pro+ range has an impressive selection of colours and finishes. From metallic glitter polishes to dark seductive shades, there’s certainly a colour for every occasion.

Tapping into the bright summer nails trend, this Viva Pink shade is one of favourites and perfect summer weekend wear. If the rest of your look is low key, this polish will certainly add a focal finish.

With its undeniable hot pink hue, Sally Hanson’s Frutti Petutie colourway is brighter and bolder than Avon’s more muted candy shade.

Not such easy everyday wear, it’s a perfect holiday addition - hit the beach in style and team with a statement bikini.

Marketed as a 5-in-1 product, there’s no need to use a base or top coat – this product does it all. Two coats are recommended for maximum effect.

Another example of the bold bright shades at DSquared2, this sunshine yellow is full of impact. Teamed with pale lips and a grungy smoky eye, the nails are certainly the focus point of the look.

With one coat of polish, the nail base is still just visible. A subtler way to wear this poppy bright, we love this look, but if you’re looking for more impact two coats will really build up pigment and add a glossier more colourful finish.

It’s definitely worth trialling a bold seasonal colour with something affordable from the high street before you invest in a pricier product.

At under £3, Rimmel’s Sunshine shade is our favourite high street option and the perfect way to experiment with yellow. If you’re looking to make your nail varnishes last, store them in the fridge to make sure the consistency stays in tip top condition – particularly important with shades such as this that you’re unlikely to use every day but want to last.

It’s harder to conceal chips and make your polish last with bright coloured shades so be sure to add a top coat to protect your manicure.

Quick drying and affordable, Revlon’s new Quick Dry Top Coat is an all round winner. Creating a high shine finish and helping to set polish quickly, it’s well worth investing in and certainly a product you’ll use and use.

Opting for a peachy orange shade, Viktor and Rolf bridged the gap between bright and neon nails this season.

Echoing the colour palette of the shows, the nails were a flattering contrast to some of the more statement looks.

If orange tones are your favourite nail polish shade this season, be sure to indulge in a limited edition ‘Freshly Squeezed’ mani and pedi at Bliss spa this summer. Incorporating invigorating citrusy orange scented products into the treatment, you’re also sent away with a complimentary bright orange Essie polish and treated to a freshly squeeze OJ.

Renowned for its organic skincare, the Organic Pharmacy’s make-up range, Organic Glam, is a must-have for any natural beauty fan.

The first nail varnish range to be completely free from chemical additive DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde, colours certainly aren’t compromised and there are numerous hues to pick from.

We love this Tangerine shade – one coat adds a subtle bright twist to your look, while topped up with another layer, the look is bolder and brighter. With its colourwash finish, compared with other brand polishes, coverage isn’t quite as opaque, but it’s certainly on trend and you can rest assured that your nail varnish is free of any chemical nasties.

A much loved desk accessory at Red Online, Bourjois’ Magic Nail Polish Remover pot is the easiest way to take off your colourful polish. Banishing the need to stow away cotton wool and bulky bottles of acetone in your bag, it’s the also the easiest way to remove chipped varnish on the go.

Dipping each nail into the pot, twisting against the soft sponge and leaving for a few seconds to let the formula dissolve polish is enough to remove all traces of nail varnish without the need for loading up on chemical based acetone lotions and using copious amounts of cotton wool.
