Steve, who was nominated for Best Actor for his role in ‘Foxcatcher’, wore a set of #HeForShe cufflinks to the star-studded event – a solidarity movement that encourages men to speak up for women’s rights.

Emma spotted the 52-year-old’s accessories and thanked him for being ‘so awesome’:

‘Dear Steve Carell, You were pure genius in ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ (one of my all time favourite films), my brother became obsessed with you after ‘Anchorman’, I wanted to marry you or have you adopt me after ‘Crazy Stupid Love’, I hated the guy you played in ‘The Way Way Back’, and then you were mind-blowing in ‘Foxcatcher’ and I think you’re so awesome and now you are wearing #HeForShe cufflinks at the Oscars to support Gender Equality. Couldn’t be more proud. Thank you.
Love, Emma x’

Steve responded to Emma’s sweet note, saying he was ‘honoured’ to support the cause.

US actor Jake McDorman also wore a set of #HeForShe cufflinks on the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday night.

The cufflinks were created by jewellery designer Monique Péan, who specialises in eco-friendly and sustainable pieces.

The 24-year-old star launched the campaign in September 2014, four months after becoming a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, giving an impassioned speech at the UN Headquarters in New York where she formally invited men to join the fight for gender equality.
