Most Popular Hipster Baby Names Revealed

Ignatius, Pandora and Enoch - would you pick these names for YOUR child?

Fixie bikes, artisanal coffee and ironic facial hair – there are a few telltale signs that you’re a hipster.

But real, die-hard cool kids go one step further than writing their first screenplay on an antique typewriter while quasi-ironically listening to Drake on vinyl and are giving their children awesome hipster names.

Yes, there are such things as hipster names.

A list composed by FitPregnancy.com reveals that hipsters don’t just have a penchant for New Balance trainers and music that you’re too normcore to have heard of, they’re also rather fond of antiquated baby names that no-one in their right mind would call their child, which is kind of the idea.

While Oliver and Olivia came out on top of most popular baby names in the UK in 2013, hipsters are going for originality.

Enter baby Ignatius.

There are a few clear trends within the uber-cool naming population.

Like the rest of us civilians, biblical names are always popular for hipster offspring.

But while the rest of us are happy with Noah and Jacob, hipsters are calling their kids Enoch and Ignatius.

Literary names are also big with hipster parents naming their kids after poets like W.H. Auden and Lord Byron, or novelists like J.D. Salinger or Emilé Zola.

And even if you’re a fan of classical names, we’re betting you’ve never considered calling your daughter Briseida.

Celebrities are way ahead of the hipster trend – Aaron and Sam Taylor-Johnson named their second daughter Romy while Cate Blanchett named two of her sons Roman and Ignatius.

Of course, the best thing about all this is that in five years time schools in east London are going to be overrun with Suzettes, Nicos and Gullivers, which rather defeats the whole point of being a hipster, right?
