'Redfoo Defends 'Literally I Can't' Dubbed 'Most Sexist Video of 2014'

We're used to women twerking around in bikinis at the back of rap videos, but this has gone to whole new lengths...

UPDATE: Redfoo, of LMFAO, who collaborated on the Play-N-Skillz 'Literally I Can't' track, has spoken out to defend it.

Note, defend, NOT apologise.

Taking to Twitter, the rapper had some pretty severe words for anyone who dared to criticise what has widely been labelled as "the most sexist song of the year."

So in the video where he shouts at girls to "shut the f*ck up" and tells them to, essentially, get on the table or get out, he is the victim?

Go figure.

Redfoo then went on to claim that the video is merely a satire and it's really all your own fault if you fail to get it, silly silly audience.

Hey, it's all just a comedy guys! [Redfoo/Twitter]

Unfortunately though, he seems to be the one missing the point that all the critics have been making.

Yep, we know it's a satire of the 'dumb sorority girl' stereotype. The thing we're really offended by, though, is the behaviour of the men in the video. It's the aggressive, rude and sexist male characters - the portrayal of which Redfoo doesn't claim to be satire - that are the awful part of the whole concept.

So Redfoo (of LMFAO) and Lil John - who collaborated on the Play-N-Skillz track 'Literally, I Can't' - might just have come up with the worst kind of sexist and offensive garbage that we've seen in a whole generation.

Congratulations boys!

We're used to seeing rap videos that feature women in bikinis, twerking, "slut-dropping" and draping themselves over the back of velvet sofas.

The idea that girls are good for little more than shaking their t*ts and pouring champagne into open mouths is one that the music industry has supported for decades.

This video though - which sees a group of women goaded into shots and stripping, shouted at to "SHUT THE F*** UP" and then eventually ejected for being killjoys -  is so many shades of wrong.

Let's break this down...

The Premise

The video's basic premise is very simple.

It seems to be this:

Ladies, if you're not willing to shoot tequila off some girl's boobs or take part in a little "girl-on-girl" paddling pool action, then what are you even doing here?

It's Lil John, do you not even know who he is?

Unless you're blind drunk and at least partially naked, you suck.

UGH, shut up and get out.

The Stereotype

So it looks like there are some token girls in the background who got the memo about the play-wrestling and tequilla shooting, good for them.

But the women who aren't cool with necking vodka and appearing on RedTube are reduced to some weird, dumb, pearl-wearing, sorority-girl stereotype, capable of nothing but snarling and squawking: "literally I can't!"

Unfortunately, this is not the most offensive part of the video...

"SHUT THE F*** UP"

The worst components of this musical horror story have got to be the lyrics themselves.

Here are a few choice lines:

"While I'm at my table trying to dance, don't f***ing talk to me"

-----

"You got a big ol' butt, I can tell by the way you walkin',

but you annoying me cuz you talkin'"

-----

"I'm tryin' to see what you got, not hear what you think."

-----

"Jump on the pole, I didn't need your opinion."

And then, of course, there's the refrain: "SHUT THE F*** UP" that is shouted over and over again, throughout the video.

Translation: women should be seen and not heard, stripping on command is all they're good for, yadda yadda yadda....

The Aggression

As the video comes to a close, Redfoo, Lil John, Play, Skillz and their mates are so enraged by the idea that these women have shown up to the party, refused to get naked and dared to open their mouths, that they single one girl out and form a circle around her in order to shout and heckle in her face.

It makes for pretty disturbing viewing.

Not cool boys, not cool.

So Kids, What's The Take Away Here?

That these boys have absolutely no respect for women? Well, that's pretty obvious.

That this track will probably still chart regardless? Yup, disappointingly.

That a kickass bunch of female rappers need to come back and make a parody video...? HECK YES!
