Grand Theft Auto 5 Now Has First Person Sex Scenes With Prostitutes. Yay.

Gamers can now simulate sex with a prostitute before beating them senseless and mugging them.

Calling out Grand Theft Auto for being violent and offensive is like complaining that Krispy Kremes have too many calories – no one cares and we’ll still all buy them.

But even for a video game with an 18 rating, the latest addition to GTA 5 is pretty nauseating.

On their way to becoming crime lords, gamers can now experience first person sex scenes with prostitutes.

For long-time fans of the game, picking up sex workers is nothing new but whereas before they had to satisfy themselves with glimpses of simulated sex from outside the car (as all paid for fornicating always happens in the front seat of whatever ride you’ve just stolen), now they can enjoy it through the eyes of their character.

Want to see for yourself? Warning: this is quite NSFW, especially with the sound on.

For the princely sum of $50, your chosen prostitute will give you a blowjob and for $100 you can have really loud, awkward car sex.

How she manages to bolster his ego with heartfelt platitudes like “I wanna swallow all of your cum” while her mouth is full is just one of the more ridiculous aspects of the action that’s sure to raise a few eyebrows.

The other might be the fact that this part of the game even exists at all.

For those out there who are already rolling their eyes and about to moan, ‘It’s just a game, who cares?’ we’d like to draw your attention to what happens after the deed is done.

The player kicks the prostitute out of the car, as he approaches he has a number of options available to him – note none of them involve saying thank you or offering to give the girl a ride home.

As demonstrated by a YouTube tutorial (pictured below) the player can choose from up to eight weapons to use on the woman, from an AK47 to his own fist.

In the above version, the player chooses to merely knock her out cold before running her over with his car but if you kill them you can actually get your money back – win win.

The fact that beating up and/or shooting the prostitute is even an option highlights the disturbing link between women and violence that the game unapologetically propagates.

According to the Home Office, at least 75 per cent of women in prostitution have been physically assaulted by either customers or pimps while a 2007 study found that female sex workers are 18 times more likely to be murdered than the general population.

Violence against women, particularly vulnerable women such as sex workers, isn’t a funny bonus round on a video game. It’s a real threat.

For female gamers, there is very little about the world of GTA that they can connect with as all three protagonists are male and women characters are relegated to the ranks of prostitutes.

When asked why there’s no option to play as a female character, Rockstar Games co-founder and VP of creativity Dan Houser claimed it was because “the concept of being masculine was so key to this story”.

Because what’s more masculine than beating the crap out of a prostitute, robbing her and leaving her for dead down some alleyway, right?
