Amal Clooney Doesn’t Have Time For Fashion Questions

The human rights barrister simply states 'I’m wearing Ede & Ravenscroft' during court case in Strasbourg

Amal Clooney may be married to one of the most famous men in the world but that doesn’t mean she’ll be giving up her day job any time soon.

The 36-year-old barrister was back in court yesterday after a trip to Los Angeles to attend the Golden Globes with husband George Clooney.

Amal and her colleague Geoffrey Robertson QC were faced with a wall of photographers at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg yesterday, not the usual reception one would expect during a human rights legal case.

After a paparazzi-filled wedding in Venice last September and her fair share of red carpets, the London-based Lebanese lawyer took the press attention in her stride and even cracked a joke.

When asked about her fashion choice for the day, Amal replied: “I’m wearing Ede & Ravenscroft”.

A name familiar to anyone who’s ever graduated from university, Ede & Ravenscroft are the oldest tailors in London and specialise in the traditional legal garments as worn by barristers.

The quip was light-hearted but points out the scrutiny Amal has been under since she started dating Oscar-winner George in early 2014.

From changing her name to which designers she wears on the red carpet, much of the attention Amal has garnered has been somewhat superficial.

When she married George Clooney last year, headlines unsurprisingly focused on the actor with little to no attention paid to Amal’s prestigious legal career.

The Business Woman Media went viral after they published their coverage of the event with the headline: “Internationally acclaimed barrister Amal Alamuddin marries an actor”.

Amal, a member of the renowned Doughty Street Chambers, is in Strasbourg to represent Armenia against Turkey and a man’s right to describe the 1915 Armenian Genocide as an “international lie”.
