Nutribullet Changed My Life: The Ultimate Healthy Breakfast Smoothie

Start every new health kick planning to whizz up a super-healthy green juice every morning, last a week before drowning in the washing up? We have the answer for you...

I am a big fan of the health smoothie.

Yes the heavily fruit-laden ones have come under criticism of late for their high sugar content, and yes, you are much better eating the pure fruit than mashing it up and breaking down the fibre.

But there's nothing like a lovely liquid refreshment you know is packed with beautiful, healthy ingredients that you can sip up with a straw.

And though some smoothies do contain as much sugar as a can of coke, if you're careful with your ingredients and don't indulge your sweet tooth too heavily, they really can give you a delicious health kick.

How else are you going to sneak green powders into your diet?

I find the best time for smoothies is breakfast. They're a great on-the-go option if you don't have time to make anything nutritious. Plus you can add protein powders to keep you full up until lunch, and superfood powders such as wheatgrass, spirulina or maca, depending on what health kick you're on (let's presume I'm preaching to the converted here).

I got a new blender, the Nutribullet, recently, and it's brought my love of smoothie to the fore once again.

It's a particular hit with me because it seriously reduces the mess I usually make creating smoothies and green juices - because you can whizz up and drink out of the same plastic container (genius, why hasn't this been done before?!).

Kate Middleton even has one in her kitchen.

And with some serious experimentation I have created what I believe to be the ultimate breakfast smoothie of all time. Allow me to share:

The Peanut Butter And Jam Breakfast Smoothie (PB&J yeah!)

Ingredients:
2 x heaped tablespoons smooth wholefood peanut or almond butter (I use Meridian brand)
1 x handful of spinach
1 x handful frozen raspberries
1/2 a banana
1 x mug of the dairy-free milk of your choice (I use Koko Milk) or enough to get the consistency you want
1 x tablespoon ground linseeds
Optional: 1 x teaspoon maca powder or sachet of your heath powder of choice

Put everything in the blender and whizz is up until smooth. Add a little more nut butter to taste if necessary, or milk if it's too stodgy.

And play around with it. I find it the perfect way to hide maca (you can't taste it in peanut butter, hooray!) but if you have a sweeter tooth you may prefer more berries and less butter. The freedom is yours.

It looks a bit odd, but I promise, it's delish!
