Unlike her first pregnancy, however, Kate is being treated by doctors at Kensington Palace and has not been admitted to hospital.

Speculation of Kate's pregnance has been rife ever since Prince George was born in July 2013.

Clarence House annouced the news at 10.27am this morning on Twitter:

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting their second child.

"The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news that Their Royal Highnesses are expecting their second child."

‘Her Royal Highness will no longer accompany The Duke of Cambridge on their planned engagement in Oxford today. The Duchess is being treated by doctors at Kensington Palace. ‘

Kate’s morning sickness means that her first solo foreign visit to Malta later this month is in doubt.

But the Duchess does plan to support her brother-in-law, Prince Harry, at the opening ceremony of his Invictus Games in London on Wednesday.

No word yet on whether Prince George will be having a little brother or sister but no doubt the little one will be just as cute as their brother.

Let's start taking bets on the new HRH's name...
