Mother's Day 2015: Forget Baking And Gardening, My Mum Wants A Whiskey And Coke

Hopelessly unoriginal press releases have made us think..... what would mum REALLY like on Sunday, given the choice.

It's nearly Mother's Day 2015 and the Yahoo Lifestyle office has been inundated with press releases citing "the perfect oven mitt" and "herbs she can grow on her windowsill."

Because all our mothers ever do is cook, clean and garden, right?

UGH.

Lamenting the lack of originality among the gifts and cards being marketed to us, we asked the Girls on the Ground bloggers to sit down with their own mums, to get a picture of what they'd really, REALLY like to receive this year.

And there wasn't an oven mitt amongst them.

My Mum Would Like... A bottle of whiskey and some diet coke.

Like most hardworking mothers, mine rarely stops. If shes not at work, shes thinking about work. Working all through her break times and coming home and then continuing the work.

When she hasn't got her laptop lid up, she spends her time planning and assembling weird and wonderful DIY projects and stressing over her three children.

What my mother would like, more than a lifeless stuffed animal or a limp bouquet of flowers, is an evening with the ones she loves. To have my brothers and I together, to have the whole family round and to let her hair down with her all time favourite drink - a whiskey and diet coke.

My Mum Would Like... A Trackdot luggage tracker.

My mum has recently retired, but she's not interested in keeping house or sitting still - she's going to travel the world! Despite constantly referring to 'the Whatsapp', she is really into gadgets and the latest technology, so she would LOVE the Trakdot luggage tracking device to sync up to her iPhone.

Trackdot - £79.99

Trakdot is a great little gadget which you put in your case before travelling. Powered by two AA batteries, it links up to your mobile phone via the Trakdot App and sends you texts and emails about your bag after every flight. Now I don't have to worry about her losing her luggage (or the souvenirs she'll have bought me!).

My Mother Would Like... A Mute Button

I like to talk . . .no . . .really . . . I LIKE to talk and unfortunately for my mum she has to listen to my dad, sister and I whine, chatter, gossip and complain about everything on this planet.

This Mother’s day I suspect my mum would trade in any offer of chocolate, perfume or other worldly possession, just for the chance to be left alone.

If a "mute button” gizmo/gadget actually existed, I think my mum would actually morph into an evil villain and put everyone around her on mute for 24 hours so she could live in her own stress-free bubble.

My Mother Would Like... A Karcher K2 Compact Pressure Washer

No one was more surprised than me when my mum exclaimed that she wanted a Karcher K2 Compact Home Pressure Washer (£89.99) for Mother's Day!

It is very difficult to imagine my mum holding a large yellow power tool. Mostly because I know how much she dislikes the colour yellow (it clashes with her flame red hair).

Anyway, she is VERY excited about this Karcher thing and has begun to persuade me of its uses - from sprucing up the outdoor furniture, to blasting the sandstone on the outside of the house. Get stuck in mum!

My Mother Would Like... An all expenses paid trip to Honolulu?!

My mum's name is Grace. She is incredibly hard working and loving. She leaves me in awe of the way she has balanced working full time and raising myself and my brother on her own all these years.

She is an AMAZING cook, I absolutely love her food and she is the only person who can make me laugh until I cry. She is a true gem!

She said for Mother's Day she would like an all expenses paid trip to Honolulu, Hawaii (not asking much!) to spend some time soaking up the sun and some time away from our li'l furball of a dog Dexter, because even though she loves him a lot, he barks ALL the time!

So there you have it! Does any of this ring true for your mum? What would she like, in an ideal world? Let us know in the comments!
