How To Style Over-The-Knee Boots

Yes this seasons must have shoes are the over-the-knee boots!

When I first started seeing this trend I wasn’t too sure about it and felt a great sense of apprehension. I don’t think I have ever felt so intimidated by an item of clothing! I was certain by wearing the boots I would end up looking like either Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, Puss In Boots or Jack Sparrow. However these boots are at the top of every cool girls wish list this season and after wearing mine for a few weeks I can see why – they are in fact uber chic!

So if you are still ‘umming’ and ‘ahhing’ about this latest trend I’ve got a few tips of the do’s and dont’s to make sure you can wear them with confidence.

My first tip is to stay away from the stiletto heel! Instead opt for the chunky cleated sole style, which is more casual and versatile. These suede boots are from Public Desire (£35.99) but you can also find similar on ASOS (£55) and River Island (£70).

1. The 90’s Mini Skirt

Over- the-knee boots are just begging to be worn with a mini skirt. It shows a little hint of leg that is still appropriate for winter and can create a perfect retro vibe. I styled this girly high waisted plaid skirt (Ark £10) with a choker (The Creeps Store £5.60) for a 90’s Clueless look.

2. The Retro Dress

For a casual daytime look pair the boots with a retro dress. Try and stay away from bodycon’s and instead go for a more laid back skater dress or understated jumper dress. I love this crochet patch dress from Topshop (£60), which creates a great vintage feel.

3. The Chic Polo Neck

We all know the rules, if you have your legs out keep the top half covered and classic. There’s no better way to do this than with an on trend polo neck (Warehouse £22). This night out look is simple but will definitely turn more heads than if you went out in your usual tights and ankle boots combo! Also, if your feelings brave add a hint of leather for that ultimate rock chick look (Leather Shorts, H&M £14.99).

4. The Casual Denim Jeans

If you are shy of showing the thigh don’t sweat! You don’t have to get your legs out wear this trend! Pairing the boots with denim for a casual look can still looks marvelous! Try wearing denim the same colour as your boots to accentuate your legs (Black Jeans, Warehouse £42). Just chuck them on with a tee and statement jacket for a effortless traffic stopping look.

5. The Statement Faux Fur Coat

We all know faux fur coats are in this season, thankfully keeping us on trend and cosy! Don’t worry yours doesn’t need to be as garish as mine, whether its black or bright you can still rock this look. Wearing knee-high boots with your fave fur coat can help create a more streamline look. The tight fit of the boots are a great way of avoiding looking like a bulky furry creature. (Just avoid the leopard print and you shall be fine.) If on the off chance you do like my coat and don’t mind looking like a semi –scandalous Sully from Monsters Inc, it is from Boohoo (£40).
