How To Add Christmas Colour To Dark Hair

The festive season is great for trying out new hairstyles which we wouldn’t normally think about. Intricate braids, glorious buns, huge backcombed structures, you know what I mean! But you don’t have to stop at the hairstyle - today I’m injecting a rush of Christmas colour into my dark black hair.

Dark hair is notoriously hard to change but I’ve got a way to add instant colour - without the bleach!

Gone are the days of hair mascara and flaky colour sprays, the hair colour products available today are bold, easy-to-use and, most importantly, easily washed out!

Today I’m using Hair Chalks - these are by Flashmob Cosmetics and are really easy to use!

Step 1: Choose your weapon of choice. Today I’m going with this pinky red colour for a bit of Christmas spice!

Step 2: Choose where you want your colour to go and place the hair section inside the chalk. Start small, you can always add more!

Step 3: The Flashmob version lets you clamp the hair in the chalk - I find this easier than having to draw colour straight on. Pull the chalk through your hair and off the tip. Voila, colour!

Step 4: Seal in the colour with a burst of hairspray. This part is important otherwise the chalk will rub off on your clothes!

Styling Tips

  • Run the chalk in lots of thin sections to get an all-over colour.

  • Apply the chalk to just the tips to add a modern edge without going OTT.

  • Colour the under-layers of the hair for a subtle flash of colour

So there we go - quick and easy commitment-free colour, no matter what colour hair you have!
