Five Thrifty Ways To Revive Your Winter Coat

The winter chill has officially set in and we are all grabbing our warmest winter coat!

At the back of the coat cupboard will always be ‘that’ coat. One that is a few years old, hardly worn and usually a plain colour at our attempt to buy a timeless coat that we can get out year after year but alas the coat has been sat at the back of the cupboard since One Direction formed. Mine is a black duster coat that I got from nelly.com a few years ago (similar to Topshop £79.)

Well girls go and rescue that coat from Narnia because I’m going to show you 5 ways to revive your winter coat:

1. Create your own fur coat:

The fur coat is a massive trend this season! However, before you go and spend an eye watering amount check out this tip! Go and buy yourself a long fur gilet, also bang on trend this season (ASOS £128). By layering it over your old coat you have magically created yourself a brand new fur coat! As well as the added layer of faux fur keeping you nice and warm like a toasty cinnamon bun.

2. Matching Accessories:

One way to spruce up an old coat is to add matching accessories. Bold, colourful additions such as a hat and scarf can brighten any dull outerwear. However, if you want to make a real statement matching shoes and bag can create a brilliant new outfit! You can find a similar bag (£14.99) and shoes (£19.99) on Missguided.

3. Belt it:

This trick is an oldie but a goodie. I used this amazing vintage belt to give the coat a new look. Another quick tip is to roll up the sleeves to create a ¾ sleeve, a very simple trick to revive your winter coat. I also accessorized with a sassy perplex clutch and phonecase from SkinnyDip London.

4.The Fur pop:

Thanks to designers such as Shrimps and Charlotte Simone the fur scarf has become another must this season and is an absolute perfect way to renew your coat! You can choose to keep it simple like this monochrome one from Primark (£10) or there are many other more bold colourful ones on sites such as Asos or Missguided.

5. Wear a show-stopping outfit:

Remember that saying “Its not what’s on the outside but on the inside that counts” well that applies when it comes to your winter coat. Wear a bold outfit with the coat undone and no one shall even notice that it is the same coat as a few seasons ago. My pick at the moment is this fluffy pink jumper from Primark (£12) as well as these cleated sole boots from Ark (£37.99). I accessorised with my favorite statement clutch by Its Not Me Its You (£69).
