This Student Was Sent Home From Prom For Her ‘Inappropriate’ Outfit: Was It Too Revealing?

Mireya Briceno was forced to leave because her dress was deemed to violate the strict dress code, but the student and her mum are NOT happy about it…

A high-school student was sent home from prom for allegedly violating the strict dress code.

Mireya Briceno, from Michigan, US, attended her senior prom at Muskegon High School for just an hour before being asked to leave by teachers for her ‘inappropriate’ outfit.

The dress code was extremely strict, but her mother Connie Briceno is furious that she wasn’t allowed to attend in her vintage-style dress – and is calling on school staff to apologise.

"I felt she was classy and elegant," she told MLive.com. "She was perfect."

The mother and daughter reckon there were other girls dressed way more inappropriately than her – and they were still allowed to stay.

But school staff say Mireya KNEW she had violated the dress code, and admitted it when she was asked to leave.

The principal said then when she was asked if the reason why she was wearing a coat was to cover up her dress, which was too ‘revealing’, she said yes.

There are two sides to every story and while we admit it’s cruel to send anyone home from the high-school prom, the dress guidelines can be easily misconstrued.

Mireya's boyfriend posted the dress code guidelines (which everyone had to sign before being allowed to attend) to Twitter, which state the following:

1.    No midriffs. No exceptions. When you look at yourself in the mirror there should be no skin showing around the midriff area.
2.    Wearing an over coat to cover up will not be allowed.
3.    Backless dresses ARE acceptable.

The dress code states that backless dresses are acceptable - and that’s the main feature of this outfit. So it’s hardly surprising that Mireya thought she was fine to wear her chosen outfit.

But the dress code does have very strict skin-on-show guidelines that she’s fallen foul of, even though the skin she’s showing is from the dress’s backless design rather than a desire to flaunt her stomach.

It still seems rather draconian to us.

And let's be honest, she did look AMAZING at prom. It's much classier than some of the dresses we've seen on My Super Sweet 16 and Promzilla.

Either way, it’s not the end of the world as Mireya is attending her boyfriend’s prom in a couple of weeks – in a different dress, of course.
