Oscars 2014 Best Dressed: The top dresses and hottest trends from the red carpet
Jennifer Lawrence and Lupita Nyong'o stood out in colourful dresses amid a sea of nude, glittering gowns on Cate Blanchett, Jessica Biel and Kristen Bell to name a few
Forget all the beautiful dresses you've seen so far this awards season, they were all just a dry run.
The Oscars is where the real red carpet looks are made and the A-Listers were keen to make a good impression, with plenty of subtle tones and classy silhouettes on show.
Jennifer Lawrence went for a stunning red Dior gown with a strapless neckline and peplum details. She paired this with a statement necklace and swept back hair. Harking back to her stunning Calvin Klein red dress a few Oscars back, she may have taken a tumble on the red carpet, but she looked every inch the movie star.
Lupita Nyong'o also stood out in a pale blue gown with a plunging neckline by Prada. It looked stunning against her skintone and she explained that it reminds her of Nairobi.
The vast majority of the A-Listers went for pale and even nude tones. Embellishment, beads and sequins were big this year with lots of glints winking from the photographers' flashbulbs.
Anglina and Kate Hudson also opted for the pale palette, but there were a few brave celebs who went darker.
Sandra Bullock looked incredible in a midnight blue Alexander McQueen dress, while Emma Watson opted for a dark grey gown by Vera Wang. And though Sandra nailed her beauty look, Emma's hair didn't quite strike the right note with the beauty squad.
