New Fashion Site Allows Shoppers To Choose Clothes Based On Body Shape, Not Dress Size

Australian fashion writer Larissa Thorne launched Sizeable after admitting shopping online can be like ‘dressing in the dark’ but should UK sites follow suit?

Online shopping can be a bit of a nightmare, with many of us having to (reluctantly) send stuff back because it looks NOTHING like it did on the model.

But a new fashion website has launched that hopes to make it that bit easier, by allowing shoppers to buy clothes based on their body shape – NOT dress size.

Sizeable

, a new e-venture by Australian fashion writer Larissa Thorne, aims to match you with one of the site’s models so you can see what items look like on your body shape.

But refreshingly, the girls that model the clothes aren’t actually models, but actually a group of Larissa’s friends that have all agreed to be pictured online.

The first thing you see when you enter the site is the instruction to ‘pick your model’ to get started.

You then see Susan, Sherena, Andrea, Jess, Lucy and Rosie modelling a plain white tee and skinny jeans, alongside their measurements.

We immediately identified our body shape as the same as petite Susan’s so clicked through to her page, where she models the different pieces of clothing.

It brilliantly demonstrates how different pieces of clothing suit different body shapes, as Susan looked stunning in a tight pencil dress while her gorgeous figure was swallowed in shapeless shorts.

“Generally when shopping online it can be difficult to imagine what clothes would look like on your body,” wrote Larissa on the website.

“Matching your own measurements to those of the models helps you to tailor the shopping experience to your body shape, ensuring you find clothes that flatter your figure.”

Larissa created the website after admitting buying clothes online was like ‘shopping in the dark’ sometimes.

“When shopping online I could be anything from a size eight to a size 12. You look at a model [on a clothes website] who is a size eight and you have no idea if that's going to fit you or look good on you,” she said.

“Then you buy it and it'll be gaping at the top, tight on your bust, and it's just money down the drain.”

The aim of the site is to send out a positive message about body image and size – and encourage women to ‘embrace’ how they look.

“I find shopping online can be really demoralising sometimes. It's left me feeling really down on my body and we want to encourage women to embrace how they look,” she said.

“It's a bit of a no-brainer, we all know there are millions of beautiful women out there who don't look like a Victoria's Secret model.”

At the moment, Sizeable is only available for Australian shoppers but we really hope major UK websites including ASOS and Boohoo follow suit.

It makes so much sense – we don’t know why it’s taking so long for brands to get on board!
