Kim Kardashian and Kanye West land their first Vogue cover

Keeping up with the Kardashian star joins her fiancé in what looks like a wedding dress for the US April edition, photographed by Annie Leibovitz

There were rumours she would be on the cover for months – all unfounded. Until now.

Kim Kardashian has finally landed the prestigious Vogue cover she’s always dreamed of – alongside her rapper fiancé Kanye West.

The reality star broke the news on Twitter today alongside the April cover image, in which the 33-year-old reality star is joined by her beau Yeezus for the shoot.

The couple – who have a nine-month-old daughter North together – pretty much look as though they’re about to walk down the aisle in the photo, snapped by Annie Leibovitz for US Vogue.

Kim dons a strapless, ivory satin gown as she showcases her sizeable engagement ring on the cover – with Kanye looking down, gazing down into her chest. Well, who can blame him?

The pair are accompanied by the strapline ‘Kim and Kanye: Their Fashionable Life and Surreal Times. #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple.’

Despite the rumours, we're a little surprised this shoot happened at all. We had heard that editor Anna Wintour denied Kim for the cover, with rumours circulating that she had chosen Girls star Lena Dunham for the February edition instead of her.

But it seems Wintour had a change of heart, though only if Kim was joined by her fashion designer fiancé.

Not that the US reality star seemed fussed. She came across rather overwhelmed as she shared the news, writing that she ‘couldn’t even breath [sic].’

As much as we're pleased for her, there's something that doesn't quite sit right with us about putting Kimye on on the cover together.

If Kim wasn't considered worthy enough to be featured alone, is she the right person to be a Vogue coverstar? It's very rare for Vogue to put couples on the cover (the Beckhams are the only pair of note that come to mind), let alone in the US, where the mag is something of an exclusive fashion bible.

Plus, the style of the image doesn't appear to be in tune with recent US Vogue covers.

For one thing, the bridal feel of the image might alienate some of their audience - especially as the dress itself is not particularly fashion-forward or beautiful. And Kim's make-up and hair seems rather dated, a little like a throwback to when she first appeared on the celeb scene.

Then there's the hashtag '#worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple'. It just seems completely pointless - nobody has ever used it. Though we imagine people will now as a mockery of the hilarity of it...

Maybe we're just being overly critical but we expected a lot more from Kim. And Anna. She's a beautiful girl with a figure to die for - but having Kanye there staring into her chest just doesn't leave the desired effect.
