She’s the name on everyone’s lips as her first major movie franchise breaks box office records in the States.
American actress Shailene Woodley – whose film ‘Divergent’ is released in the UK today – is being labeled the next Jennifer Lawrence by many film critics.
And it looks like the 22-year-old might be following in J-Law’s footsteps on the red carpet too, as she makes the transition from gawky teen to the film-star muse that designers are desperate to dress.
Awkward start
Jen and Shailene both began as gawky teens on the red carpet back in 2008. The Divergent actress looks slightly more comfortable posing for photographers than J-Law – but they’ve both got that wholesome, preppy teen look that helped them nab roles at the beginning of their careers.
Starting to look glam
Both actresses had a red carpet turning point when they started to look more polished i.e. they probably hired a stylist for the first time. Shailene looked fresh-faced at a Teen Vogue event back in 2010 while J-Law donned bodycon sequins at her first Critics Choice Movie Awards in 2011.

A designer’s dream
While J-Law’s red carpet style has become synonymous with Dior lately – she’s the face of Lady Dior handbags – Shailene has something of a penchant for Valentino. She started to wear his designs in 2012 and chose the Italian fashion house for her first Oscars appearance that same year.
Red carpet leading lady
They both landed leading roles at the start of their twenties, with Kentucky-born Jennifer starring as Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games while Cali-born Shailene was cast as Beatrice Prior in Divergent.
The world premieres of these films were the first time the actresses could take the stage as leading ladies – and they didn’t disappoint. All eyes were on J-Law as she donned cut-out Prabal Gurung for THG premiere while Shailene looked beyond beautiful in one-shouldered Elie Saab at the Divergent premiere earlier this year.
It looks like the next step for Shailene is a multi-million pound contract as she face of a designer label. Our money’s on Valentino – what do you guys reckon?
