Gemma Arterton and Samantha Barks Top Our Best Dressed List At The Laurence Olivier Awards 2014

Kristin Davis and Hayley Atwell also looked stunning on the red carpet – but Alexandra Burke and Ruth Wilson failed to impress with their choice of attire

Do they ever put a foot wrong in the style stakes?

Actresses Gemma Arterton and Samantha Barks stole the show at the Laurence Olivier Awards last night, both topping our best dressed list in fashion-forward pastels.

Pretty in pastels

Former Bond girl Gemma, 28, was red carpet perfection in a figure-hugging, pastel mint Prada gown with a statement silver ring and drop earrings.

The British actress – who co-hosted the theatre awards show with Stephen Mangan – styled her brunette locks into a sweeping side parting that looked absolutely stunning against her porcelain complexion.

Another star to work the pastel trend on the Oliviers red carpet was Les Miserables actress Samantha Barks, who got us very excited for spring in her lilac lace gown.

The musical theatre star, 23, looked simply breathtaking in her Burberry Prorsum dress, sporting a pair of matching-coloured knickers beneath the dress to ensure she avoided a wardrobe malfunction.

Keeping it simple

Captain America actress Hayley Atwell proved you don’t have to go OTT to look amazing as she sported a white figure-hugging Dsquared² gown, flaunting her hourglass figure in the process.

The brunette bombshell added a touch of sex appeal to her outfit with scarlet red lips and nails – styled with a metallic gold clutch.

Elsewhere on the red carpet, Sex and the City actress Kristen Davis brought a touch of Hollywood glam to proceedings in a coral-coloured, plunging Monique Lhuillier frock.

But it wasn’t such a great night for some of the other stars at London’s Royal Opera House who appeared on our worst dressed list instead.

Ill-advised outfits

Former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, 25, looked a little frumpy in her white full length gown with shoulder detail.

The star’s top knot and blunt fringe was more suited to a festival than a prestigious awards ceremony – and it looks like she went a little OTT on the make-up.

Actress Ruth Wilson took a fashion risk in a waterfall-hem Erdem dress but she looked pretty uncomfortable posing for photographers.

We preferred the edgy metallic jumpsuit that the 32-year-old wore to the BAFTA Awards earlier this year.

Failing in florals

Former Strictly judge Arlene Phillips, 70, was bang-on-trend in florals last night – but her silky gown with buttoned-up collar looked more suitable for the bedroom.

And supermodel Kate Moss looked decisively underdressed in a floral pyjama suit as she posed backstage at the Oliviers.

Couldn’t she have donned a gorgeous gown or an on-trend jumpsuit instead?
