Cannes 2014: Sharon Stone And Irina Shayk Work The Cut-Out Trend At The amfAR Gala

Ronaldo's girlfriend nails the sexy trend while the Basic Instinct star slightly misses the mark in Roberto Cavalli

Cannes film festival has long been a platform for designers and stars to rock new trends and 2014 has been no different.

Last night's amfAR charity gala was a who's who of A-listers in stunning gowns and we couldn't help but notice that half their outfits were missing.

Yes the cut-out trend that we've seen on catwalks and red carpets over the last year doesn't look to be going anywhere as stars like Heidi Klum and Irina Shayk flashed the flesh at the charity event.

Atelier Versace was the designer leading the slashed style, with both Irina and Heidi rocking their barely there gowns.

Irina left boyfriend Christiano Ronaldo at home for the evening as she attended the soiree in a baby pink Versace gown with an impressive thigh-high split and contrasting textures.

Heidi also whipped out a leg bomb for the night in a baby blue sequin Versace number, topped off with an old Hollywood style wave an impressive jewels.

Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio nailed the cut-out style in ice white Roberto Cavalli, completely ignoring the 'either boobs or leg' rule.

The 33-year-old sparkled in silver accessories with matching silver heels and clutch, wearing her brunette locks in soft waves.

Unfortunately not everyone totally grasped the tricky cut-out style, as Sharon Stone's Cavalli gown left us confused.

The Fading Gigolo star wore a crimson sheath dress that featured gaping holes around the lower stomach - the area we have lovingly nicknamed 'our little paunch' as we would never want to flash it!

Obviously Sharon doens't have to worry about that but it still looks rather odd to us.
