The X Factor’s Cheryl Fernandez-Versini Expert Hair And Make-Up Tutorial

Find out what Chezza’s hairdresser Paul Percival and make-up artist Karin Darnell ACTUALLY used on the star and how to re-create her looks on a budget

She recently topped the list of THE most requested celebrity hairstyle of 2014 and her make-up is on point every week.

So we got the low-down from Cheryl Fernandez-Versini’s The X Factor glam squad (hair stylist Paul Pervical and make-up artist Karin Darnell) about how they created some of her best beauty looks for the show.

We’ve also suggested some drugstore alternatives if you’re looking to re-create the looks on a shoestring budget.

How to re-create Cheryl's X Factor waves [Syco / Thames / Corbis]

1)    Prep the hair using five pumps of Percy & Reed Smoothed, Sealed & Sensational No Oil Oil for Volume, combing through from roots to ends

2)    Apply a golf ball sized pump of Percy & Reed Abundantly Bouncy Volumising Mousse and comb through hair with a wide-toothed comb or your fingers to ensure even distribution and create a centre parting

3)    Start to blow-dry the hair from back to front. Take sections that are the width of the brush and split into two. Every time you select a section of hair, keep moving the parting for a more voluminous finish

4)    Slide the brush to the end of the hair and roll up to the root. Take a salon clip and secure the brush in your hair. Leave to cool whilst doing the next section and repeat for the rest of the hair, rotating the brushes

5)    To add extra movement, apply L’Oréal Paris Heat Protect Styling Spray in 3 Day Wave and pick large sections of the hair at random. Then use the Babyliss Boutique Soft Waves Tong to give hair a bend rather than a curl

6)    Once hair is dry sweep hair over one shoulder, leaving a section on the other side loose to balance the look

7)    To finish, spritz L’Oreal Elnett Lumiere Hairspray onto a dressing brush and brush from the ends to the middle of the hair for added shine and hold

We’d recommend applying John Frieda Frizz-Ease Perfect Finish Polishing Serum, £6.29, to towel-dried locks before adding TRESemme 24 Hour Body Amplifying Mousse, £5.75, for volume.

The L’Oreal hairspray that Paul used on Cheryl’s locks is only £6.60 (and a well-known hairdressers' staple!) so well worth investing in for the festive party season.

Cheryl’s Glamorous X Factor Smokey Eyes, By Her Make-Up Artist Karin Darnell

1) Apply MAC Texture Eyeshadow to eyes followed by Smashbox Blush Rush in Heartbreak and Bobbi Brown Blush in Apricot (actually pink!)

2) Next, apply MAC Cosmetics Eyeshadow Pigment in Pink Bronze

3) Use MAC Cosmetics Eye Kohl in Smolder along the lower waterline, followed by lashings of L’Oreal Paris False Lash Telescopic Mascara

4) Finish off with a pair of false lashes to really open up the eyes – Cheryl wore a pair of Eylure lashes in Belle Of The Ball from her own range

The key to Cheryl’s bronze smokey eye is layering, but it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. Rimmel London and Barry M both offer eyeshadow sticks that are completely fool-proof.

We’d recommend starting with Rimmel London ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Bulletproof Beige, £4.49, applying straight from the bullet all over the eyelid. Then, layer up the colour with Barry M’s Supersoft Eye Crayon in Brown, £3.99, taking it up towards the crease and blending up towards your brow bone.
