How To Recreate Scarlett Johansson’s Edgy Red Carpet Hairstyle At Home

The Avengers: Age of Ultron actress continued to rock her undercut on the red carpet this week but you can get the look at home

Scarlett Johansson is something of a hair chameleon.

From peroxide-blonde curls to sleek brunette locks to an auburn bob hairstyle for 'The Avengers', she’s covered most of the spectrum.

But the 30-year-old star, who recently gave birth to her first child Rose Dorothy with husband Romain Dauriac, has gone for perhaps the most striking look of all.

After the birth, the actress chopped it all off to reveal an edgy, pixie cut that she recently flaunted on the red carpet.

Red Carpet Glam

The US actress looked incredible in a fringed Preen mini-dress with black heels at the recent G'Day USA Gala in LA – but it was her hair that we couldn’t take our eyes off.

Totally different to what we’re used to seeing on her, the new mum completely owned her boyish hairstyle that was shaved at the sides and styled into a retro, blonde quiff.

We spoke to Rosie Binns of Ethos Salons in Manchester, who recently won the North Western Hairdresser of the Year, about how to recreate this lust-worthy style.

“Scarlett Johansson shows an edgy crop with an undercut can still look glam and red carpet worthy!” said Rosie.

What To Ask Your Hairdresser

Cut-wise, Rosie suggests asking your hairdresser ‘for the top to be disconnected from the back and sides.’

Make sure you bring in a photo of your desired style, even if it’s just a screengrab on your phone (it saves that embarrassing moment when it’s totally not what you asked for!))

“Don't be afraid to take pictures to your stylist so they can see how short or long you want your hair,” Rosie told us.

“They may advise something better for your hair or face shape but it's a starting point to get you on the same page!”

As we said, Scarlett’s past hairstyles have been something of a rainbow, from blonde to brunette and back again.

It looks like she’s found what suits her skin tone – a natural, sunny blonde that enhances her radiant complexion.

“Scarlett’s colour is a soft blend of warm blondes with a little bit of root, which makes the disconnection less hard,” said Rosie.

“You want to ask your stylist for soft, subtle tones getting lighter towards the face and to keep the undercut and roots near your natural base for less upkeep.”

How To Re-Create The Look At Home

Already got the hairstyle? When it comes to re-creating Scarlett’s red carpet hairstyle from the comfort of your own home, it’s all about the product.

“Use an oil to give it that luxurious feel, a blow dry balm with plenty of hold to help you blow dry it in to position, and a flexible hair spray to set it, without it looking rock hard!” said Rosie.

Long-haired ladies can also take inspiration from Scarlett’s edgy look. Straighten your locks and then pin up the centre-section of your hair and pin back into a quiff.

Backbomb and add hairspray for volume and hold, before styling the sides of your hair back into a ponytail.

Fix with glossy hairstyle to complete your red-carpet worthy look!
