Bikini Girl Sues Banana Girl: Two Of Australia's Hottest Fitness Gurus Battle It Out

Popular Aussie personal trainer Kayla Itsines has lodged a lawsuit against Freelee the Banana Girl and Durianrider for criticising her Bikini Body training plans

A self-proclaimed health and fitness guru in Australia has made enemies with one of the most popular personal trainers in the country, by claiming that she 'starves her followers'.

The claims feel a little ironic, coming from the super-slim, undearwear-clad, self-titled Banana Girl, made famous by her penchant for eating 51 bananas a day (potassium levels be damned).

Her feud is with Kayla Itsines, a 23-year-old personal trainer with 2.3m followers on Instagram, who lodged a lawsuit against the Banana Girl and her pal Durianrider, after Freelee posted a video in which she calls Itsines' 12-week fitness plans 'starvation programmes'.

In the video, nearly-naked Freelee spends more than 10 minutes ripping apart Itsines and her plans - so it's hardly surprising the personal trainer has blocked her (something Freelee was most put out by).

Freelee continues, saying that Itsines is 'making money off her followers' ignoranance' and that any diet under 2,000 calories a day is 'starving your body'.

The 'Raw Til 4' diet advocate has also claimed that Itsines partner, Tobias Pearce, takes steroids.

Itsines enjoys huge popularity both in her native Australia and around the world. Her Bikini Body Plans are 12 week fitness workouts that promise significant results, and she posts regular before and after shots of followers who've taken on the challenge. And starting at AUD $69.75 they need to work!

Her strategy is fast results, but she does warn that fitness beginners shouldn't be embarking on her plans until they've upped their cardio fitness levels to a healthy degree.

The plans include a variety of body weight excercises, cardio, HITT and pliometrics. She also has nutrition plans that recommend regularly eating small portions containing all the food groups, with plenty of protein.

Freelee's diet and fitness plans are totally in opposition, which is obviously why the two have clashed.

What's interesting is that Freelee is advocating everything that personal trainers and fitness experts have been pulling away from in recent years. Instead of weight training and pliometrics, which are the basis of Itsines plans, she suggests running or cycling - aerobic exercises that modern fitness plans suggest aren't the best way to lose weight.

But the most controversial of her suggestions are her diet plans. Freelee believes that a mostly raw, fruitarian diet is the way to get lean and healthy. She suggests a smoothie of 30 dates for breakfast, fruit throughout the day and eating salad greens with a little fruit for dinner.

She claims she gets all the nutrients and proteins she needs from fruit.

She is perhaps missing the point a little of Itsines' plans. Freelee passionately pleas that people eat more calories, saying that of course you'll lose weight if you're eating fewer calories because you're 'starving your body'. But for those overweight or keen to drop some body fat, that's exactly the point and that is why they see results.

Freelee and Durianrider have responded to Itsines' lawsuit with a video, and this Instagram post:

Itsines hasn't commented on the matter. The hearing is planned for March 23rd.
