15 Sweet Treats To Cool Your Kids Down With This Summer
A refreshing mid-afternoon treat will be most welcome after a long afternoon of play in the sun
Rather than letting your tot queue up for yet another Mr Whippy or fill up on sugar filled soft drinks on hot summery days, have him cool off with one of these homemade treats.
All of these snacks can be made with your tot’s help and some are even easy enough for your little one to make solo.
Frozen Blueberry Yoghurt Sticks
Use natural yoghurt to make these delish chilled treats. Get your child to help you thread blueberries onto wooden kebab sticks, coat them in yoghurt and then stick them in the freezer for a few hours, or preferably overnight.
Lemon Sorbet Bowls
Rather than serving your tot some yum watermelon sorbet in a regular bowl, use a scooped-out lemon to put it in – it will give the sorbet an extra citrus flavour hit.
Pineapple Ring Ice Pops
SO easy and SO good. Literally just tinned pineapple on sticks and frozen. Child’s play.
Chocolate Coated Kiwi Ice Pops
If your tot’s not the biggest fan of fruit, coating it in chocolate can be an easy way to tempt him to eat it. You don’t have to use kiwi – replace it for whichever fruit is most likely to be a hit with your little one.
Frozen Banana Penguins
All you need to make these little fellas is some bananas (use half for each penguin), orange M&Ms and some chocolate to melt. But be warned; your tot will likely never want to eat a boring, plain banana again.
Fruit Salad Cones
Perfect for breakfast (you can chuck some granola in there too) or as an afternoon snack, these fruit salad cones look awesome and save on the washing up.
Frozen Yoghurt Pots
This simple idea is a great way to get some calcium into your child while helping him cool down.
Fruity Kebabs
You don’t have to use the chocolate or nuts to make these fruity sticks, but it’s bound to make them more appealing to your child.
Watermelon Slices
Ten times easier to eat and way easy for tiny hands to hold, who knew that cutting up a watermelon in a different way could be so revolutionary?
Fruit Salad Ice Pops
Those ice pop molds that we all had as children are still going strong – and it’s easy to see why with fruity creations like these. You can either blend fruit and pour it into the shape or simply put in slices with a little fruit juice to hold it all together.
Grape Ice Pops
These grape pops are much healthier than ice lollies – but just as satisfying.
Watermelon Slushy
Blend ice with some small chunks of watermelon to make these delicious, and icy, drinks.
Frozen Yoghurt Bites
The perfect bite-sized treat, use an ice cube tray to make these FroYo cubes. Blend yoghurt and frozen then pour the mixture into the trays and freeze overnight.
Fruit Sticks
Way healthier than lollipops and so much more interesting than how fruit usually looks, your tot is bound to gobble up a couple of these.
Lemonade With Blueberry Ice Sticks
Add some blueberries into your ice cube tray to add a hit of fruit to your child’s post-school drink.
