11 reasons why half-term was the best

We all complained a lot about school but let's face it, the holidays were amazing

1. You were only back at school for six weeks before they gave you a WHOLE WEEK OFF.

2. And you just know the teachers were glad to see the back of you too.

3. Back to a week of lovely long lie-ins.

In fact, you could spend all day in bed if you wanted. IT’S HALF TERM.

4. If you felt like getting out of bed there was always TV.

Sweet, sweet daytime TV. Ricki Lake, Jerry Springer, Jeremy Kyle – ALL OF THE TALK SHOWS

5. TV specials. Channels like Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network got wise to the fact that all of us were sitting around with nowt to do so they had huge half-term marathons. Eight hours of Sabrina the Teenage Witch? Don’t mind if we do…

6. If you had a bit of pocket money knocking around there was always the local shopping centre.

[What was life like before Facebook came along?]

Claire’s, HMV, Athena, River Island, Tammy, Game, JD Sports – it was all yours for the browsing.

7. Maybe a little trip to the cinema. Let’s face it all the best films were aimed at us teens.

8. If you were fortunate enough to live at the seaside then you got to play on these all day.

30,000 tickets for a bouncy ball? Sounds fair.

9. If you were really lucky, your parents took you away on a cheeky holiday. Florida in February? Oh go on then!

10. But even if you stayed in the UK – hello theme parks!

Okay so the queues might have been massive as it turns out every other school kid in England had the same idea as you but who cares? You got to ride Nemesis until you threw up that £8 burger and bucket of candy floss.

11. But it was all short-lived as Sunday night rolled round again and despite what you’d promised your parents, you hadn’t done ANY of your homework.

Claire’s earrings - £3.99. Athena poster - £4.99. Starting a 1000-word essay on the Crusades at 8pm on a Sunday night– priceless.
