If the saying ‘the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach’ is true, a steak that doubles as a marriage proposal is probably a safe bet.
Beefeater Grill is offering a special deal to ladies looking to propose to their sweethearts on 29 February that features a 7 oz rump steak served to their partner with the question ‘Will You Marry Me?’ seared into the meat.
The offer takes advantage of an old adage that a leap year allows ladies to skirt tradition and propose to their husbands on the last day of February. This is because historically 29 February had no status in English Law and as a result, women were able to abandon proper convention and take the act of proposing into their own hands.

A spokeswoman for Beefeater Grill said: “As all women know only too well, if we wait for the man of our dreams to make a move we could well be waiting for a long time! So at Beefeater Grill, we’d like to offer a helping hand to those gutsy girls who are going to take a chance and tell their partners exactly how they feel. Break a leg, ladies.”
The specially branded rump steak will be available from 6.30pm on 29 February, as part of the Beefeater Grill’s Evening Value Menu, which offers two courses for £10.99. Love birds can log on to www.beefeatergrill.co.uk to find their nearest restaurant.
Would you ever propose on a leap year? And if so, would you say it with steak? What do you think of this promotion? Clever or cheesy?
