Women in their 20s 'need to start fighting wrinkles'

We don’t spot our first wrinkle until we’re 29, but women need to start thinking about anti-aging earlier than that, say experts

Woman need to start fighting wrinkles at 28, according to a skincare expert © RexWomen start to worry about getting old at the age of 29, but should start tackling wrinkles earlier than that, according to an expert.

A study of 2,000 women found that women begin to worry about wrinkles, sagging boobs, bingo wings and crow’s feet as they reach their thirties – but Yahoo! Lifestyle spoke exclusively to a skincare expert who told us women should start working on their anti aging routine earlier than that.

“Approximately 28 is the time when your fibroblasts will start to decrease the amount of collagen they make – and that’s what gives the skin its elasticity,” says Mr Lee Garrett, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner at Harley Street clinic FreedomhealthSKIN.

“So this is where it all starts to go downhill.”

He added that every year we lose a percentage of our collagen, but if you smoke, drink alcohol or eat a lot of sugar, you could begin to see signs of aging much earlier than 28.

The average female doesn’t spot their first wrinkle until they’re 29, and at that age they start to fight the signs of anti aging by spending 12 minutes a day ‘anti-aging’ themselves using creams and make-up.

“Some women may always worry about how they look, but it is incredible to think that those who are still in the prime of their life at age 29 are already worrying about the effect aging will have on their face and body,” said Andrew Groom, Buying Director of Superdrug, which conducted the study in conjunction with its new anti-aging skincare line.

“That said, it’s really never too early to take care of your skin... and a quick skincare routine started at 29 really will combat the signs of aging.”

The study also revealed that whilst women over 29 want to look younger – until then they try to look older.

More than two thirds of women (67 per cent) under the age of 29 wear make-up to look older, while more than half (58 per cent) would wear something to make them appear older than their years.
