Wardrobe full of clothes but nothing to wear? New study reveals women take into account 11 FACTORS when choosing outfits

Weather was the biggest reason for deciding on what to wear, followed by temperature, plan for the day and mood

Do you wake up every morning with a wardrobe full of clothes but nothing to wear?

It’s a common occurrence for women across the nation – but it’s no surprise, as we have to take into account 11 FACTORS when choosing our outfits.

A new study has revealed that Brits are mainly influenced by the weather in the morning – but our mood and plans for the day are important factors too.

More than a third of women (35 per cent) said that they plan their outfits around the weather, while 26 per cent choose their outfit dependent on the temperature outside.

But it’s not just about being comfortable in the climate as the third biggest factor when choosing what to wear are our plans for the day, whether it’s important meetings or going out for drinks after work.

And how we’re feeling is also important, as 7 per cent of women said their choice of outfit depended on their mood.

The study also revealed we choose different colours for how we’re feeling that morning.

Women tend to wear black when they’re not feeling confident or under the weather – whereas we wear red looks when we’re feeling confident.

“Even at the height of summer, we usually have to look out the window or check the forecast before choosing an appropriate outfit,” said Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck, Global Creative Director at Toni&Guy, who conducted the study.

“But as well as the day's agenda, it also seems that women tend to dress according to their mood or how well they feel, with many making more effort with their appearance when they are happy.”
