Versace’s Cruise Collection crashes site and sells out

It’s been a great week for Versace. First the photo of their newest star, 10-year-old Kaia Gerber (Cindy Crawford’s daughter) makes headlines worldwide and then the Italian fashion house’s cruise collection for H&M sells out the day of its launch!

The site buckled under the pressure again as eager fashionistas clicked frantically to get their mitts on the final range.

Users were unable to enter the site for hours as it experienced high volumes of traffic.

This time round there were no long queues outside the retail stores as the Versace for H&M Cruise Collection was only available online in Sweden, UK, Denmark, Germany, Norway and Holland.

If you managed to snap up the limited edition pieces from the Versace for H&M Cruise Collection you are super lucky because within minutes of the range launching online at 9am the website servers went into meltdown for at least two hours.

H&M tweeted at about 12:30pm: “We’re very sorry for the tech problems during today’s #VersaceforHM launch. We’re working on expanding capacity for more visitors.”

When customers finally managed to gain access to the site the tech problems continued through to ordering.

One customer tweeted back at H&M “waited until 11. Put items in my bag only to b told their unavailable to then pay for! Not a happy bunny #VersaceforHM.” [Sic]

The most wanted pieces from the cruise collection are already appearing on eBay selling for almost three times the original price.

A silk dress with tropical fruit prints was sold for retail at £59.99 but is listed on eBay for £159.99.  A pair of white ballerina flats with the gold Versace emblem on the toe sold on the H&M site for £39.99 and is now available to buy at £110. Even jewellery pieces that were an affordable £19.99 have been bumped up to £59.99.

Don’t lose hope if you didn't bag anything because H&M also tweeted that you should check back on the site for returns in the coming days. If you are in luck you might be able to snap up some unwanted items.

We have to admit we are pretty sad to see the end of Versace for H&M but all the hysteria and hype will soon be recreated as fashion followers gear up for Marni for H&M dropping into stores in early March.
