The long Jubilee weekend is fast approaching, and we’re in the mood to celebrate. And the perfect way to celebrate any big occasion is to throw a party. Whether you just want to invite close family and friends, or finally get to know your neighbours, If you’re planning on throwing a street party to celebrate the Jubilee, here are some essential tips:
1. Decorations. You can buy yards of union jack bunting and flags all over the high street, which is a fast and effective way to make your garden (or living room if the weather isn’t on our side) look festive and party-ready. Alternatively if you want to get your little ones involved have them make the decorations. Cut triangles out of white paper and let your little one colour them in and decorate them with union jack patterns or even drawings of the queen. Then simply stick the triangles to string and hang anywhere that needs a festive touch!
2. Food. Depending on your party budget you have two options for food: do it yourself, or ask everyone attending to bring a dish. Whichever option you choose, make sure you have a mix of sweet and savoury, vegetarian options, and simple foods for the fussiest little ones. Children love to cook, so if you’re catering yourself get your little ones involved in preparing the food: making cupcakes, cookies, and simple sandwiches are all activities children will enjoy!
3. And to drink? Grown ups can toast the special occasion with champagne or summery Pimms. But little ones don’t have to feel left out: a non-alcoholic version of Pimms can be made with fruit and lemonade for older children, whilst fruit juices and even the rare change to have fizzy pop will excite smaller children
4. Games and entertainment Choose games and activities that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Egg and spoon races and simple boules will be popular, whilst the more adventurous of you could try putting on a Punch and Judy Show. You could even have a cheeky game of Pin the Tail on the Corgi. If you want a more adult orientated day, a bouncy castle will keep the kids entertained for hours while parents have a chat. And because everyone loves to boogie, don’t forget a little music too!
5. Finally, dress up! A great way to break the ice and get everyone in the festive spirit is to implement a dress code. ‘Best of British’ is a great costume theme for this occasion, and bound to spark all your guests imaginations. It’s also a great way to involve your little ones, who can help create their own costumes and if you’re feeling crafty you could even all sit down and make masks to wear together.
