A tough, white band of strong connective tissue which attaches a muscle to a bone or cartilage. When you contract a group of muscles, the attached tendons will pull on certain bones which allows you to make a wide range of movements. They are intended to withstand tension; for example, when lifting weights. Tough, flexible cords, tendons are one of the key elements of the body to warm-up before exercise to prevent repetitive strain injury or tendonitis.
