Taste Of London Festival 2014: Meat Liquor Smashes It At First Festival As Sunshine Soaks Regents Park Foodies

Tastebuds (and elbows) at the ready - it's Taste of London time again. Here's our verdict...

It's always a scramble to get your hands on your chosen grub at Taste of London.

But one newbie food stand in particular was noticeably crazier than all the rest at the Regent's Park festival this weekend.

And for that we think it was MEATliquor's year at the annual foodie festival - with crowds packing out the stand on its first year of showing.

MEATliquor stole the show.
MEATliquor stole the show.

We elbowed our way to the front of the queue to grab a Double Bubble Cheeseburger Slider, which at a bargain 4 Crowns (equivalent of £4) most certainly did not disappoint.

The patty was cooked to perfection, the bun moist and sweet, just the right amount of mustard mayo - and all wrapped up in the trademark red and white paper for authenticity's sake.

It was a generous slider too - much closer to a full-sized burger than a bite - and *almost* leaving us too full for other stalls.

Despite the crowds the operation was slick - the chefs pumping out burgers by the second in a slick conveyer belt of cooking and serving. Literally fast food.

The 15-minute wait for their 'Monkey fingers' (marinated chicken in a hot sauce) put us off but other punters were happy to invest the time. And at just 5 Crowns (their most expensive dish), the nationwide burger chain had pitched it just right.

We did leave space for something OTHER than burgers (honest) and here are our other honorable mentions:

Best Starter: Avenue Mac & Cheese Crisps

Crispy deep-fried macaroni and cheese with a smoked tomato dipping sauce. There really isn't anything better. We'd like a bucket load delivered to our office please.

Best Fish Dish: SUSHISAMBA Tuna Seviche

Halfway between a gazpacho and a soup, this little pot of spicy delight combined the soft texture of juicy raw fish with the crunch of wasabi peas and maize morados. The mini savory pesto macaron made our day.

Best Chicken Dish: Maze Bang-Bang spicy chicken hand roll

A glorious twist on the conventional sushi handroll containing spicy, crunchy peanuts, smooth chicken and a rich Bang-Bang sauce. Delectible.

Best Dessert: Duck & Waffle Pistacio Macaroon

We thought we'd died and gone to pudding heaven. A chewy pistachio macaroon shell on a delicate but rich airy chocolate mousse with boozy cherries. Plus bonus blobs of pistachio puree, meringue and crystalised white chocolate. HELLO.

Best For Veggies: L'ANIMA Fettucine

A pan of steaming hot fresh fettuccini with broad beans and peas from Francesco Mazzei was summery,  light and silky-smooth.

Best Cocktail: Lychee Martini Blended Ice

Easily mistaken for an innocent slush puppy, be afraid, be very afraid. Fruity, refreshing, evoking childhood memories of crushed ice by the pool but with a SERIOUS kick.

Roll on 2015.
