Suzanne Shaw blog: Fun with Matt's parents and a new dance partner... despite my little fall

Dancing On Ice's Suzanne Shaw spent a lot of time with her dance partner's parents, Ray Quinn and talks about her tumble on Sunday night.

I’m writing this with a slightly sore bum after my little tumble on the ice last night! Ouch! Too much firm-grip on Matt’s hand was the reason – we literally got stuck together when I was supposed to release!

Oh well, maybe it makes for good TV for the audience at home! I was just relieved to have made it through what was a really tense show… despite my little fall, Matt and I were really pleased with how it went.

The training last week was quite intense in preparation for duel week and I really felt like I had the fire back in my belly. It was such a great challenge for Matt and I, and we had loads of banter with Ray and Maria during training. I think I’d call it a friendly rivalry!

We’re back on the ice rehearsing the next set of routines all week with a really fun theme… I’m looking forward to wearing my outfit too! Let’s see how it goes…

After having Matt’s mum and dad over from the States to stay with us for a few days, it was sad to see them head back across the pond. We had such a great time with them. Matt’s mum, Connie, fell in love with our dog Dudley. Well, he is super cute! Matt’s dad, Ted, just played games with Corey solidly for 4 days! Corey’s favourite game, ‘Frustration’, was exactly that for Ted! A dog-sitter and a babysitter… Might have to invite them back soon!

Dudley had his first haircut this week. It took him a while to realise the scissors weren’t a toy but the groomer said he was pretty well behaved! And it’s great that we can finally see his little face! Within minutes he was playing in the garden with Corey undoing all the hard work and covering himself in mud!
I’m trying to teach Corey about the importance of saving his money, not just spending it straight away. A little tricky as he just loves to spend it as soon as he gets it. And he’ll count it all up about 4 times a day, working out exactly what he can afford!

He was given a fair bit of money for his birthday and as you can imagine, day-by-day it began to vanish. He decided he needed some of those sticky little figures you throw at the wall. They were dotted all over the ceilings and walls for days! And then one or two went missing… we later found out that Dudley liked the taste of them!

Within days, all of Corey’s money had gone, and he finally announced, “I’m broke”! I have to admit, it really made me giggle with him sounding like an adult! So to give him a better understanding of money, I’ve started a little game/lesson with him. We each pick an activity that has no cost involved, for example, going for a bike ride or watching a film together (although I seem to find myself playing hide and seek quite a lot!). He’s also got a little savings pot in his bedroom which a proportion of pocket money goes into (one day he’ll have to send that to the tax man!).

Lots more to do this week and training will, yet again, be stepped up another notch.  As the weeks go on, the pressure grows, but I’m loving every minute of it!
