Survive a long-haul flight
Hate that bleary-eyed, can't cope feeling after a flight through time zones?
Take some advice from professional flight attendant Christopher Babayode of NoJetStress.com.
STEP 1: Get grounded. When you get to where you are going, take off your shoes and walk around barefoot on the ground for 30 minutes or so. When you fly your body is under huge stress, which causes a build-up of toxins and makes your body acidic. The earth gives off negative electrons which help neutralise these toxins.
STEP 2: Melatonin regulates sleep. And it is created by darkness. Be aware that we are surrounded by so much artificial light - we need to reduce it slowly en route to bed to allow the hormone to kick in. So no computer, iPad or smartphone once you're tucked up in bed.
STEP 3: The environment on a plane - low oxygen and low moisture - saps your energy. Avoid acidic foods, opting instead for alkaline in order to re-balance your energy. Try green juices, vegetables, supplements and meditation.
STEP 4: Cosmic radiation is a real bugger for your system. Combat it with magnesium spray or oil applied after a bath. Increasing numbers of us are found deficient in this vital mineral.
STEP 5: Use caffeine intelligently. Don't automatically reach for a coffee. Instead, try Yerba mate, guarana and green tea. Stick to these to help you acclimatise to local time.
STEP 6: Your body's biochemistry affects your alertness by reacting to the foods you consume at different times of day. Try eating a protein-based breakfast and see the difference in your energy levels throughout the day.
