However many feel they are not prepared for what they encounter. Some fathers, particularly first-time dads, feel apprehensive about seeing the woman they love in pain and often experience spare wheel syndrome, not knowing how to best support their partner through a potentially long and painful process.

In this episode of Bumps, Babies & Beyond, Myleene is joined by new dads Jamie and Dean to compare their experiences in the delivery room and what their role was at the births of their children.

Astrid Osbourne, who as a consultant midwife has delivered many babies, says that while many dads play their part at birth, others can feel more like a hindrance and some are even torn apart.

Astrid has seen men cry in reaction to seeing their partner in pain and explains that dads sometimes feel afraid.

She says the important thing for dads to remember is that their primary role in the delivery room is to support their partners.

Bumps, Babies & Beyond with Myleene Klass is a 48-part video series exclusive to Yahoo! Lifestyle. Tune in every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday for new episodes.
