NORAD’s Santa tracker for Christmas 2011
Santa Claus is finally coming to town! You can follow his trip across the world as he makes the all important journey to deliver gifts to girls and boys on Christmas Eve with the NORAD Santa Tracker.
For over 50 years, the North American Aerospace Defense Control (NORAD) has been helping families to trace Santa’s progress using interactive maps.
Since 2007 NORAD has used Google Maps to enhance the experience of Mr Claus’s annual trip and now users can even track Santa in 3D.
You can get detailed information on his current location in real-time so your kids will know exactly how far Santa has to come before he reaches your neighbourhood.
This year users can also track Santa’s journey on-the-go through smartphones and various social media channels including Flickr, Twitter and Facebook.
The Santa tracker uses radar, satellites, 'Santa cams' and fighter jets to help locate Jolly St Nick across the globe.
The 3D tracking will be up and running on Christmas Eve, with NORAD’s radar system on alert for the exact moment that Santa leaves the North Pole.
Until then children can visit the site for the Santa countdown and play in the Kid’s Countdown Village, where new games and videos are available every day until 24 December.
