Real-life Rapunzel to have her first hair cut

Schoolgirl Aimee Chase, 11, has never had a hair cut – but all that is about to change.

Aimee will chop her luscious locks for the first time as she prepares for secondary school in September.

While the schoolgirl’s hair is nowhere near as long as the fairy-tale character Rapunzel, Aimee’s hair has grown to an extraordinary length measuring 3ft 6in – reaching down to her knees.

Aimee, who was known at her Hampshire junior school as ‘the girl with the long hair’, is set to chop a massive 2ft off her hair.

She said: "I'm going up to senior school and I want to do different things with my hair.

"It's going to feel weird because I have had long hair for so long and now it's going to be cut short."

The good-spirited tween will donate her hair to The Little Princess Trust, an organisation that provides wigs and hair pieces for children who suffer hair loss during treatment for cancer.

Aimee made the decision to donate her hair because her family has friends who have suffered from cancer.

She said: “With so much hair, I don't want it to go to waste. I'm quite proud of giving it to somebody else who could use it."

The family will hold a fundraising day at their home while she has her hair cut this weekend by her hairdresser cousin Anushka Chase.

It will raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Leukaemia and Lymphoma research.

Aimee’s mum Amanda said that people often notice the unusual length of Aimee’s hair:  “We’ll be walking along the street and we will get comments.

“I keep thinking I am going to get emotional when she gets it all cut off. I’m proud of her for doing it but excited as well.”
