Queen, Katy Perry, Tina Turner....are these the best workout songs ever?

With the world’s top athletes breaking records left, right and centre at the Olympics, Tesco Phone Shop has discovered the most motivational songs to help you reinvigorate your workout routine.

According to their research, the nation can’t face a session on the treadmill without listening to Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now, which was voted the nation’s favourite workout song.

This was closely followed by Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger (no surprise to learn this was the most popular track for men) and Tina Turner’s Simply the Best.

Overall, the nation voted for Queen, Madonna and Lady Gaga as the best artists to train to with Rihanna and Beyonce in hot pursuit.

If you’re not already exercising to music like 57% of the population, you may be tempted to snap-up an MP3 player when you hear what the experts have to say.

Sports psychologist, Dr Costas Karageorghis, has spent 20 years conducting scientific research into the effects of music on sport and exercise. He told us: “Music and sport have much in common: both are culturally pervasive, both are about good rhythm and both touch us emotionally.”

He added: “Athletes routinely tap the power of music as part-and-parcel of their training. Our research has shown that during exercise, well-selected music can reduce the perception of effort by as much as 12% and enhance mood by 10%.”

So, great music can lead to a more enjoyable and efficient workout. Result.
